I AM - painting series - Contemporary Art

"I am" is a testimony of existence.

The project was born from the desire to know and understand who I am in the depth of my being, beyond my identity in the social context, trying to find an essence, a truth.

Who, what or how am I? It is not easy to find an answer and the more I sink into my reflections, into my studies and more questions I have, therefore even fewer answers.

I begin to travel this journey of search for the being, for the deepest self. I do it as always, through art, this time with a primitive, direct and personal approach, through my body. I start from the principles, from the first form artistic expression, the imprint of the body, a body art, as a living brush.

It's just me, naked from all principles, my body, my vulnerability, the colors, the desires, the emotions and my canvas, the white, blank canvas, the void, the light, the rebirth. Me and the world, two different entities, which unite through action, interaction. A cause and an effect, both. The colors, impressed on the canvas, show proof of my phisical existence. My body adapts to the support of the canvas, which welcomes the imprint that my silhouette leaves, the trace of my existence.

I can create. I can destroy. I can make art. I can just get dirty. I can be everything. I can be nothing. I can do everything on this canvas, but the canvas will force me to adapt to it and its rules. What comes out... the painting reflects me in the world, on earth, into society, I am society itself, the world itself is also me. The painting teaches me a lot but it is not the answer I was looking for. The answer doesn't lie on the final consequence, neither on the beginning.

Instinct tells me that the essence of my being is not a characteristic, an attribute, a property, virtue, nature or anything else, it is not a result, some "thing", but rather all this, it is existence itself. Feeling myself, the beating of my heart, thinking, breathing, moving and all the things I am capable doing, living is my essence.

I live. I exist. I am.

Painting through body art thus becomes awareness of being and manifestation of life.
